All media persons joining WPFUK are asked to uphold professional principles covering freedom, accuracy, fairness, privacy, source protection and responsible reporting.

CODE OF PRACTICE

Core principles at a glance

A structured presentation of the principles currently published on the WPFUK website.

Freedom

Uphold news and media freedom, freedom of expression and the public’s right to be informed.

Accuracy

Ensure information is honestly conveyed, accurate and fair; correct harmful inaccuracies.

Fact vs opinion

Clearly differentiate fact from opinion in published work.

Honest methods

Obtain material by honest, straightforward and open means, except where public-interest investigation justifies otherwise.

Privacy

Avoid unjustified intrusion into private life, grief or distress.

Source protection

Protect confidential sources and material gathered in professional work.

Independence

Resist threats or inducements intended to influence, distort or suppress information.

No discrimination

Do not produce material likely to lead to hatred or discrimination.

Children

Normally seek appropriate adult consent when interviewing or photographing a child about their welfare.

No plagiarism

Respect authorship and avoid plagiarism.

GOVERNANCE

Constitution & member responsibilities

The current site also publishes a WPFUK Constitution. In the redesign, governance documents should live in a dedicated resource area with clear versions, update dates and downloadable files rather than being buried inside article-style pages.
